Description:
Trillium Gap Trail to Grotto Falls is a moderate trail off the Roaring Fork Motor Nature Trail. It is 2.6 miles roundtrip though a old-growth hemlock dominated forest. Grotto Falls is distinctive as the only waterfall in the park one can walk behind, the 25 foot high waterfall is a cool, moist environment that is ideal for salamanders and summer hikers.
The picturesque nature of the falls along with the unique ability to walk behind the falls makes this a very popular trail, so expect company on your hike.

From the parkway in Gatlinburg, turn at traffic light #8 and follow Historic Nature Trail into Great Smoky Mountains National Park. Take Roaring Fork Motor Nature Trail (no RVs or trailers; closed in winter ) to stop #5 where there is a large parking area.
