Panther Creek Trail (Cohutta Wilderness)
Internal trail to the headwaters of Panther Creek
Description:
The trail goes from east to west, with its higher elevation to the east on East Cowpen Trail (3800 feet) and its lower elevation to the west at Cosanauga River Trail.
The eastern trailhead is located 2.3 miles from Eastern Cowpen’s southern trailhead at Three Forks Mountain. There is a marked campsite at the junction of East Cowpen and Panther Creek Trail. About .7 miles from East Cowpen, Panther Creek Trail drops over 800 feet in elevation in less than a mile. If you are camping near East Cowpen it’s a strenuous hike down and back up to retrieve water, so make sure you have some type of water bag to last you a couple of days.
Panther Creek’s Cosanauga junction is located 4.9 miles from Cosanauga River Trail’s Betty Gap trailhead.
