CCC Trail

Hilly loop through Claude D. Kelley State Park

Description:

The trail was built by the Civilian Conservation Corps in 1938. Initially, the path runs alongside Blacksher Lake, then enters a thick forest. When the trail reaches the top of the ridge, hikers can look down the 75-foot drop-off to see a soft clay pit; from here the path heads back toward the lake. The lake offers swimming and fishing year-round, so stop to take advantage of it.

As a sidenote, this region is the home of the Poarch Creek Indian tribe, which allows the public to attend its annual Thanksgiving PowWow at their reservation in Atmore.
