Open Pond Trail

Trail through the southern end of Conecuh National Forest

Description:

The first leg of the double-loop leads around Open Pond and, on the far side, its campground. After passing through a marshy area, the trail reaches Buck’s Pond and Ditch Pond, the latter of which holds the best chance for viewing the most wildlife of the three ponds, as it is furthest from the campground.

Some of the wildlife visible along the trail includes American alligators, wood ducks, herons, egrets, kingfishers, doves, wrens, woodpeckers, blackbirds, and goldfinches.
